Throwing up and throwing down at the National Guard Armory 1-20-07
Photos by Mike McGuiganIt was a quick night at the National Guard Armory where as usual on a Power Productions card; you get quite a few early knockouts. The card was reshuffled at the last minute with the main event of Levon Warner and Dave Brunelli being changed from a 6 to 4 rounder and co feature Tyric Robinson falling off the card completely. While many fans left disappointed in the Warner – Brunelli fight, they did enjoy seeing Gabe Rosado bounce back with a win scoring a knockout midway through the first with a right hook to the ear of Chris Overbay. Overbay was down for the count and still woozy a few minutes after the official word was given by ring announcer Pat Fatore. Tommy Spiller beat Darius Hunter to a pulp over two one sided rounds and showed that he would be a formidable match up for one of the middleweights with open dates for the Blue Horizon on February 9th. “Hammerin’” Hank Lundy was dropped early in the first round of his fight but he picked himself up, won the remainder of the round and finished off Jesse Francisco in the second with a steady serving of body blows followed with hard hooks to the face. Mark “Oaktree” Brown makes Charles Brown puke his guts up in the ring after a severe body assault over four heavily one sided rounds. The main event has a lot of buildup but in the end it was a snoozer as Levon Warner won a majority decision over Dave Brunelli in a battle of Philly Heavyweights. Warner controlled the action early using his jab and landing some punches on the inside as Brunelli charged in. Brunelli took the third round by being more active and he managed to land a flush right hook that made the crowd scream. The fight was up for grabs in the 4th and both fighters were at a bit of a disadvantage because there was a hole in the ring. Brunelli elected to continue even though he had a busted right eye. He tried hard in the 4th but came up a little short as Warner continued to catch him charging inside. In the end two judges say the fight 39 – 37 for Warner with a third seeing it even at 38 – 38. Warner has now won 4 in a row since his return to the ring, I think him and Oaktree Brown would be a nice fight.

BRUNELLI BEAT HIMSELF, LEAVON DIDN'T BEAT BRUNELLI... IT WAS NOT BRUNELLI'S NIGHT.. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A RE MATCH.... DAVID BRUNELLI IS A LOT BETTER OF A FIGHTER. LEAVON AND BRUNELLI SHOULD FIGHT A 6 ROUND FIGHT, I THINK BRUNELLI WOULD STOP LEAVON THIS TIME.. KEITH I WOULD LOVE TO BET ON THAT ONE!!!! BRUNELLI IS ALOT STRONGER THEN HIM.. WELL, I HOPE BRUNELLI GET'S A CHANCE TO SHOW EVERYONE THAT HE IS A BETTER FIGHTER!!!!!
I agree, a 6 rounder and it could have been a different story. Brunelli started to come on down the stretch. A rematch in a ring that isn't falling apart would be nice. Brunelli showed heart fighting on with his eye cut open. Hope to see him again soon.
