It a shiny 70 degrees in Germantown but none of the kids of Charles Henry Elementary wanted to miss school on this day. Their big brother of sorts who attended this school years ago and made it big was coming home and he was bearing gifts. News anchors, media, old teachers, friends and children all gathered he Bernard Hopkins cut the ribbon to officially open a new playground for recess time and also purchased new computers for the classrooms to make learning fun. Through the Bernard and Shirley Hopkins Make a Wish Foundation, the champ raised over $60,000 for this project alone and plans on doing more after his world title fight against Winky Wright in July.

The project is focused on helping disadvantaged kids and school who are desperately in need of resources to succeed in life. The goal is to make Philadelphia a better place and give kids opportunities and options other than the street corner.
