Yorgey to fight Medina at The Blue 10-12-07

It is going to be sizzlin again at the Blue Horizon on October 12th and this time because pound for pound stalwart Harry Joe Yorgey will fight against Jose "El Macho" Medina in a 10 round junior middleweight showdown to headline the card. Yorgey is itching to get back into the ring and make it a perfect 20 to start a career while Medina needs to bounce back strong after being upset at The New Alhambra in July.

Yorgey (19-0, 9ko's)of Bridgeport, PA is 2 - 0 in 2007, the first win coming by way of blowout over James Wayka late in the first round and followed up with a strong, workman like effort against Edson Aguirre of Mexico. Medina (14-10, 10ko's) is no stranger to tough comptetion, splitting his time between Philly and the road usually to take on a legitimate prospect. He has also fought twice in '07 going 1 - 1 first by winning a unanimous decision over his unrelated namesake Jose "Stinger" Media but was upset in a split decision by Mustapha Johnson in a ruling that many dispute.

It is a fight both men need, Yorgey is on the cusp of making that leap to the next level and with a strong performance, it will be offical that he is long overdue for a big stage fight. Since turning pro 2002, he has gained a big fan following due to his war time mentality and his high octane offense. Around this time last year Yorgey kicked into a high gear and put out some of the best action fights in recent memory. Though Medina lost his last fight, he is not one to take lightly. He's faced the better competition and has knockout power. His big hooks and body punching are always a factor and when knocks them down, they usually stay down. If he comes in shape like he did against Miguel Figueroa, we could be a gem of a fight. If not, it will probably be curtains early. Bottom line, we have two guys here who like to fight and it should be good while it lasts.

When is Jules Blackwell going to fight a half decent opponent. I can see 1 or 2 stiffs in the beginning, but it's looking like he'll be fighting bums until he's like 15-0 just like Yorgey. I think after a few "get your feet wet" fights, Sirb should make these guys step it up. Why not Victor Vasquez, or Isaac Suarez? Yorgey vs Mike Jones? That'll never happen, but that would be the end of Yorgey hype.

First of all why are you bringing up Jules Blackwell here? Ok so he hasn't fought anyone very good but neither has Vasquez or Suarez or Kennedy or Paul Fernandez or Mike Jones. Yorgeys competition has been been a bit better than most. Even the top prospects in boxing have it easy when coming up. It sucks but that is just the way it is these days. Yeah Sirb should make tougher fights, agreed 100%. It needs to go back to when a great fighter like Terrible Tim Witherspoon who was only around 15 fights deep in his career and giving a good beating to Larry Holmes. I don't completely agree that Jones beats Yorgey either. Jones hasn't fought anyone man enough to try to test him. I do agree that fight will never happen in a million years.

Harry Joe is by far the most entertaining fighter in this town. Bar none.

Yorgey-Jones would be a war. Harry is more experienced and could outpoint Mike, if Mike doesnt KO him first. That's one of those boxer vs puncher fights. If Harry is able to take Mike into the deep water rounds I think he'd win a decision. Another great fight we'll never see.

The problem nowadays is money. With no TV, few fighters are willing to risk a smaller payday dangerous fight when the big time money is at the casino's Madison Square Garden or Las Vegas later in their careers.

Harry has great technical skills. He is a tough young man who shows great respect to the fans and the game.

Mike Jones is an exciting knockout artist, who i think is a true Welterweight. why would he fight above his weight where he would lose some of his power against Yorgey. it just doesn't make sense.

Many shows lose money. There is only so much that you can pay an opponent unless there is TV involved.

the better your record, the more expensive and less likely an opponent will agree to fight you.

i have talked to Harry and he really is ready to take that next step up.

Simply put, this Oct 12th card at the Blue is shaping up to be a real stinker. I hope this ain't on TV. There's only one card worse than this one, and it's the New Alhambra on the 5th. I don't even want to spend money going to these. They mostly consist of all mismatches, or a main event every now and then is a good show. I guess I'll continue watching ESPN Classics for competitive boxing. John Poore is fighting a guy 2-4 that hasn't won a fight in 2 years!!!!!!!!!!!

Will someone please come kick this chair from under me!!!!!!!

I wouldn't say both cards flat out stink because there are guys on there worth keeping an eye on both nights. Only if everyone started working together.

Imagine a card that resembled something like Mike Stewart v Robert Frankel, Harry Yorgey v Jose Medina, Mike Jones v anyone and two build-ups underneath for Teon Kennedy and Jules Blackwell in consecutive bouts....

I think we need to step it up as well. Boxing fans want to see an entertaining fight. This is not the UFC where they're looking for the knockout everytime. We should leave all the tuneup fights to our friends in the West Virginia Commission. I think Philly needs to set a precidence that we only matchup good fights where both have a equal chance. If it's about money, than make good cards, and more people will spend more money on better shows. Seriously, what's another $20 a seat if it promises to be a fairly matched card throughout. I would pay twice as much as they've been charging if I knew that every fight was hanging in the balance. Remember, professional sports are entertainment, and it's really the promotor's/matchmaker's fault if it's a lousy turnout. If you build it, they will come.

Your right the fights at the Alhambra are missmatches. lets take a look

Stewart 42-6-2 23 kos vs Robert Frankel.

Stewart fought a close decision over Scott Ball that many at ringside thought it was closer then the judges indicated. His last fight during a heated exchange it was stopped due to a really bad cut caused by an accidental headbutt against crafty veteran Darien Ford 11-15. Frankel has won his last two including winning a split decision victory over Mike Gonzalez (10-1)in his last fight.
sounds like a decent bout to me.

Mike Jones 10-0 vs Richard Hall 10-19-2 Jones is an undefeated knockout artist that few want to face, epecially this early in his career. Richard Lee Hall was last seen in Ocean City Maryland almost pulling the upset against undefeated Tim Coleman. I was there and it was very close.

Omar Pittmon 14-3-1 vs Demetrius Davis 17-13-4 7ko's. these two fought to a split decision in their last fight. Nuff Said there.

Teon Kennedy 5-0, 3KO's vs James Franks 2-3-1 2ko's. Kennedy had a tough fight winning a split decision against Frncisco Palacios 1-1-3) Franks at 2-3 qppears to be equal or a step up from Palacios.

"Big" John Poore 18-2, 18 ko's vs Mike Miller 2-4-1 2ko's. Poore was knocked out just two fights go against Cerrone Fox. Poore is a former toughman who is just now being taught how to box and look for openings.Miller is the perfect opponent to see if he has improved his skills.

are favorites supposed to win? Of course but does this always happen? no
ask Mike Stewart about his last trip to the Alhambra. Cavallo at delaware Park against 21-37 Shannon Miller.

as for Blackwell, he is in the four round fight area. there are not that many fighters as light as him out there in close eastern states that are drivable from. as for fighting Isaac Suarez, that is a perfect fight when both are around twelve and 0 a main event fight that will draw much more interest then now also more money for fighters.

unfortunately you have to fly opponents in and that is expensive to house corners and the fighter for a few days with airfare. there is just not enough money to do this a his stage of his career.

Fighters only have so many fights in them. if you put them in wars early, when they hit the big stage, they are worn out. many fighters will tell you that.throwing a fighter in against the best all the time is career suicide.

I guess you can look on the bright side of any matchup, or even a school bus flying over a cliff on fire. First of all, almost doesn't count, and if you don't know how to box after 20 professional bouts, then tough shit!!! There is absolutely no reason that a guy 18-2 should be fighting a guy 2-4. I don't care what angle you look at it. If it's about money, than put 2 guys with shitty records against each other. I'd like to see Sylvester Beard vs Earnest Scott. Put that on the Dream Card Keith. At least it would be entertaining.

OK. The school bus over a cliff is probably a bit much. Are there any kids on board??? Dude this is an even fight. Did you see how hard is was for him to knockout his last opponent? I think that guy just accidently walked by the Alhambra like an hour before the fights.

I agree, the school bus off a cliff bit was going a little bit overboard. Overall he does bring up interesting topics and the man does have a right to his opinion. Oh and for the record, I think Yorgey - Medina is going to be a very good fight if Medina comes in shape. Just my 2 cents.

PS - I say Old School Scott gets by Beard but Marsay Buggs might give him some work. The 0 gotta go would probably be a good battle at a discount price!

look out for Luis Castro, this kid can fight and with beautiful style and technique,he'll be making his pro debut at the blue on Oct.12th. castro is a 130lbs and very slick when he's on his game, he's trained by up and coming trainer Mark Robertson who worked with Mighty Mike Aurnautis and Luis Alberto Santiago in his last fight at the national gaurd armory.

Mike Jones stopped Clay in the fifth round two fights ago. lets see how Yorgey handles him on Friday night.

Yorgey is just reaching his potential. A big names should be in his next fight. It is not Harry's fault that real opponents are afraid to fight him at the money that they are getting for a fight at the Blue Horizon.

There are three Junior Middleweight prospects on the east coast. Yorgey, Wolak and Ennis. Wolak is fighting Jonathan Reid in Wildwood on November 10th. Ennis should have a fight soon. Yorgey is fighting to avenge the only draw on his record Friday night.

Mike Jones is a Welterweight and a top prospect, who is fighting Israel "Pito" Cardona on November ninth.

Yorgey should win by knockout or will blow out Clay if it goes to a decision. Yorgey is in the best shape of his career going into this fight on friday night.

Prediction: Yorgey by fifth round KO. put it in the books.
