Wachovia Spectrum 10-19-07

photos by Mike "Teek" McGuigan

The fights returned the The Wachovia Spectrum as Power Productions collaborated with KO Fights and Extreme Sports for a 6 fight card in the South Philly landmark. The primary attraction was a showdown between two local heavyweights and Mark "Oaktree" Brown and Dave Brunelli squared off over 6 rounds of action. In the main event, Light Heavy's Richard Stewart and Jameel "Black Gold" Wilson went to war over 8 rounds of back and forth slugging. There were a few more heavyweights on the bill as undefeated Gurchuran Singh from India took on "Millionaire" Mike Miller in a 6 rounder and Grant Cudjoe of Brookyln went in against upstate PA's Jason Bergman. In Welterweight Action, Raymond "Tito" Serrano was making his pro debut against Tierre King. Dan "Bada Bing" Biddle opened the show and looked to make it two in a row as a professional.

Heavyweight Division

Mark "Oaktree" Brown....vs....Dave Brunelli
New Jersey....................Philly
9-1...........................8-2

It was a battle of two tough local heavyweights which was surrounded by a lot of hoopla and media attention. Once it got into the ring it was a steady paced fight which went the distance where both fighters had some good moments though neither was seriously hurt at any point.

The opening round started as expected with Oaktree coming out aggressive and looking to work inside while Brunelli looked to fend him off with his jab. In the final minute, the action picked up as Oaktree was able to land a couple of good lefts while Brunelli finished the round landing two straight rights which wrapped up a close round. The bell sounded but that didn't stop these guys as they kept at it until the ref broke the fighters up.

The pace kept up in the second round with Oaktree starting it off with a right hook to the body followed by a head collision backed Brunelli into the ropes. Oaktree followed up with a good flurry to the body. The fight ended back in the center of the ring with Brunelli working his jab and trying to side step his incoming opponent. The fight stayed on the inside for the remainer of the round with Oaktree finishing up with a looping right hook.

After a slow third round that saw a lot of holding, Brunelli bounced back in the 4th with his best work of the night. He started the round landing three straight punches upstairs followed by some good body work. Oaktree began to get wild with his hooks which didn't land. As the round ended, Brunelli finished with two more straight rights to the head of Oaktree.

It was steady pace to begin the 5th where Oaktree began to land his jab in the early going. After some more holding and wrestling around, the round neared an end with Brunelli scoring first with a short right but Oaktree fired back with 2 short lefts. Both men kept on punching and the crowd rose to its feet in approval as the bell sounded.

It was a rough sixth and final round with both men coming out fighting like it was all on the line. Both looked for the homerun blow which caused a lot of tie up's. Oaktree did more on the inside during these tie ups which was probably the difference in the round.

The fight went to the cards and they read 60 - 54 & 59 - 55 x2 in favor of Mark "Oaktree" Brown.

With the win, Mark Brown improves to 10 - 1.

Light Heavyweight Division

Richard Stewart...vs...Jameel Wilson
Delaware...............Philly

Most of the fans hit the exit after the Oaktree - Brunelli fight and man did they miss a war. For 8 non stop rounds, Richard Stewart stalked Jameel Wilson and dug hard to the body with hooks and finished upstairs with more hooks. Wilson took Stewarts best and would fire back with two, three and four punch combo's to Stewart's face.

There were times where Stewart looked like he was ready to go but he sucked it up and came back stronger. The same can be said for Wilson who was rocked more than once but instead of going down, he regrouped and fired back with everything he had.

The fight went to the cards and they read 76 - 75 Stewart, 77 - 75 Wilson and even at 76 - 76 for the draw. A rematch is a must!

On the undercard....

Gurchuran Singh won an uninspired dicision over "Millionaire" Mike Miller. Miller was his usual slick self, bobbing and waving, catching right hands and counter punching. In the rare occasions when he took the fight to Singh, he get the better of it. The fight went to the cards and somehow they saw it 59 - 55 & 58 - 56 x2 for Singh.

Grant Cudjoe got a tough nights work but grinded out a hard earned decision victory over Jason Bergman. Both fighters threw some heavy bombs in this one, though Bergman landed less, his did more damage as the southpaw stunned Cudjoe more than once with a big left. Cudjoe was at his best when he got his man into the corner where he would unload a barrage of rights and lefts. To Cudjoe's credit, he seems like a bull in there and if he catches you right, it could be lights out. The fight went to the cards and they read 59 - 55 & 58 - 56 in favor of Cudjoe with the third judge seeing it even at 57 - 57 giving Grant Cudjoe the majority decision.

Welterweight Raymond "Tito" Serrano made the most of his pro debut by slugging Tieree King out of there midway through the first round with a left hook to the body.

In the opener, Dan "Bada Bing" Biddle scored a quick first round KO.

ha.ha that is funny. frist let me start of by saying that it was a good fight by both. mark won the fight, BUT LET'S NOT TALK SHIT ABOUT BRUNELLI, THERE WAS NO MARK'S ON BRUNELLI FACE AFTER THE FIGHT. DAVE WENT TO WORK AFTER THE FIGHT. WE KNOW WHAT HE DID WRONG,AND IT WON'T HAPPEND AGAIN.
REMATCH? THEY DON'T WANT THAT. GOOD LUCK TEAM OAK TREE. JUST LIKE KEITH SAID" MORE PEOPLE IN PHILLY NEED TO STEP UP LIKE MARK AND DAVE"

P.S.TEAM BRUNELLI WILL BE BACK SOON. THANK YOU ALL FOR THE SUPPORT.

Oaktree won the fight thats final! Even though he held alot and just throw wild punches that didn't connect i guess he was still the more active! the fight of the night goes to the last fight Stewart fought his ass off to come back and get a decision - overall i think the card sucked it was a bad card! What was with all the Ohio fighters coming to Philly they sucked! We need more philly fighters - fighting philly fighters! Brunelli i love ya man but i think it is time for MMA! You used to wrestle in highschool and i think you are done in boxing! You cant win if you don't throw! And i dont mean just jabs!!!! Good luck to you man!

11:01 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

This is Ray Ruiz and i think that whoever said that last fight was good is dead wrong! Man both of those guuys would get killed against me! Jameel Wilson has no power and Stewart has no defense yo i would kill them boyz! I would knock out Wilson and hit Stewart with uppercuts all night long - like i did to Tony Farante - haha where were you at on Friday i was looking for you boy! HAHA! As for Willie Williams you know you lost bring that fight to Philly and it would have been a different outcome! Send some emails - you too Murphy (you to Murphy - tough loss brother)! Superstar is coming back strong!

id rather pay to see 2 fighters beat the shit out of each other like steawrt and wilson did than see 2 guys who are technical, defensive and boring. when is the rematch?????

i dont see anyone making excuses for the brunelli loss either. i think you people are just trying to start up some shit. this board cracks me up and i loe how everyone gets a chance to talk but dont go makin shit up. that shows no class.

next power productions armory show:
oaktree vs grant cudjoe
brunelli vs the 18-0 indian

11:43 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Come on Man!!! Do you really think that people want to see Oaktree hitting and holding onto an out of shape Cudjoe. I personally think Cudjoe lost this Friday but they somehow gave it too him! And that Indian fighter SUCKS -- he F'N SUCKS! If that fight card is true than leave it to Power productions! Greg Robinson needs to get some new fighters! It is the same people every card: brunelli, tyric robinson, gabriel rosado(who i like), big poppa, khalil farrah, and now tony farante! Come on greg were tired of seeing the same fighters fighting nobody's! We want the brunelli vs oaktree fight to set an example -- top fighters fighting top fighters - make it happen! Do you fucking job - give the people their money's worth! Show everyone what Philly Boxing is all about!

Not sure how true this is? Did one of the fighters from Friday get arrested after his fight, while other fights were going on? I heard that he was beating on his girlfriend in the back room and got taken to the police after threatening the security guard! Philly Keith did you hear anything like this!!!!!

a chance This Ray Ruiz guy that everyone is talking about i had a chance on Friday to talk with him - that is one cool Son of a Bitch! Yo i cant believ he is 40 years-old he looks great and in great shape! I heard he got ripped off in Baltimore and is looking to fight that guy Jameel Wilson - my money is on Ruiz! The only thing that Jameel has is an entourage and a really good entrance! Props to that! Everyone talks about Ruiz's record but it might actually be better than Wilson's!

I want to touch on what a guy a few comments ago said.... why isn't Gabriel Rosado on every Power Productions card? He is never in a bad fight win or lose. I will go out on a limb and say he might be the most entertaining fighter to watch because his fights are almost always wars. People put too much value in a record, give me a guy who comes to fight any night of the week.

10:16 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

This is that guy from a few moments ago - What i said was that Power Productions always has the same people on his card - and i mentioned Gabriel Rosado but i said i like him though! He is an entertaining fighter and is gaining alot of respect! I totally agree with you though how right away people look at their record and think someone is not good! Everyone comes on here talking about this guy Ray Ruiz and i have seen the guy fight that Reule Williams you have to give this guy credit he fought a tough opponent with his first fight in 4 years! As for the rest of his record those fights could have been Battles that the judges just found in favor of the other guy! It happens that is boxing! I would take Ruiz he is 40 they say but he has heart! Look at Jameel Wilson and Joe Christy they are exciting fighters but their records arent good! I would pay to see these guys who have heart and want to fight then someone who is undefeated fighting bums!

Let me comment on the poor trainers. FUCK YOU!!!!!! If you have watched Dave from the beginning then you would know that he has gotten better with experience. Put your name on there you fuckin coward! Only bitches talk shit, and don't have the balls to show their face. Sure, Dave could have done much better, but sometimes things don't go the way you want it to. It was an entertaining fight. I think people can at least appreciate the time and effort that both fighters put into the preparation for this fight. They were still going strong in round 6. As far as whoever wants to take a personal shot at me, opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one, and most of them stink.

There is always one asshole in the bunch. How would you like if i called your boss to tell him I think you suck? Sometimes a fighter had a bad night plaine and simple. I think it is really a matter of how Brunelli bounces back.

Yo Keith is Oaktre fighting on November 2?

Ray "Superstar" Ruiz SAYS....

First off I would like to thank Philly Keith for his support in the Baltimore matter and to everyone out there that emailed the Baltimore Boxing People in support of me! That’s what’s up! Well they responded they said that they are not going to overturn the decision but they decided to give me a rematch but again it will be in Baltimore! Only this time it will be alot more money and they are putting me up in a suite and all expenses will be paid for! I know it isn’t exactly what I wanted but this guy Williams knows that I beat him so I guess this time I have too put a real hurting on him! As for my fight with that guy Chuck whatever from Wildwood I still want to fight him too it is just a matter of money right now! Thanks again to everyone that writes about me for just keeping my name out there and to Philly Keith you are the man! Brunelli don’t stop now man you had an off night just bounce back and go at them 10 times harder now man! Chris your crazy boy! HAHA! Go get’em!

Only in the eyes of whoever thinks he is the best Lt Heavy right now. Let's just say it would be a huge win for you. Just go out there like you're fightin' a world champ, and put it all on the line. Greg Sirb is pretty tough on older fighters, and if you keep losing he might pull your license. Good Luck!!

Oaktree is learning on the Job everyday he is getting better. He knows and the fans know this. Oaktree has the heart and the work ethic that will pay off down the road. This game is funny, once it comes to heavyweights who knows a couple more bums like Brunelli Oaktree will get a shot at a nice pay day.

MAURICE WHEELER RANKED 365.10&10
JOHN POORE RANKED 216.19&2
TRAVIS KAIFFAM RANKED 191.10&0
GERARD NOBLES RANKED 172.26&1 BRUNNELLI WILL BE 10&22 WHEN HE DECIDES TO HANG IT UP! YOU N-EAST GUYS ARE A BUNCH OF STIFFS.

Blogger Philly Keith said...

Ok i need to step in for a minute. First, to the guy specifically replying to Tony Gazzo's comments, leave a name. He put one up since day 1.

Overall it is time to move forward. Two fighters with good records put it on the line, that deserves credit. Both sides showed they have solid teams around them who support their fighter. Thats a really good thing.

Here is the PK Prediction...
Oaktree beats up on bums and gets to 15 - 1 by spring 2008.
After that he steps up for a rela test.

Brunelli gets brought in as an "opponent" for some over rated undefeated guy and Brunelli pulls the upset. Maybe that indian guy who fought at the spectrum.

But the real question is....
Do either beat Big John Poore if that fight ever happened? Let me know what you think.
